Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information SPL Mixing collects through splmixing.com, why I collect it, and what I do with it. SPL Mixing is run by me, Daniel Booth, in Melbourne, Australia. When this policy says “I”, “me” or “SPL Mixing”, that’s who it means.

I handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What I collect

When you use the project planner. Your name, email address and the details you give me about your project: where you’re based, how many songs, where the recordings are at, your budget and timeline, and any links or notes you add. The planner also records the date and time you sent it.

When you accept a quote. The name you type to accept it and the date and time you accepted.

When you email me or use a contact form. Whatever you choose to send, usually your name, email address and message.

When you send me music. Audio files, session files and any notes that come with them. I only use these to work on your project.

When you browse the site. Technical information such as your IP address, browser, device type and the pages you visit. Some of this is collected through cookies (see below).

I don’t collect sensitive information, and I never ask for payment card details on this website.

Why I collect it

• To prepare your estimate and quote, and to reply to you about your project.
• To do the work: mixing, production, recording and mastering, and to deliver your files.
• To send you a copy of your estimate and emails about your project.
• To keep records for invoicing, tax and legal purposes.
• To keep the website secure and filter out spam and abuse.
• To understand how people use the site so I can improve it.

I don’t sell your information, and I don’t add you to a mailing list.

Who I share it with

I only share your information with services that help me run the business, and only as much as they need:

• Website hosting in Australia, where the website and planner enquiries are stored.
• Google, for business email (Google Workspace), website analytics (Google Analytics) and spam protection on forms (reCAPTCHA).
• CleanTalk, which checks form submissions for spam.
• Wordfence, which protects the website from attacks and may log IP addresses.
• Trackbits, if you use the client portal to review mixes and leave feedback.
• A mastering engineer, if you ask me to arrange mastering. I’ll only pass on what they need for your project.
• My accounting software, for quotes and invoices.

I may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Information stored overseas

Some of the services above, including Google, CleanTalk, Wordfence and Trackbits, may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and Europe. I choose established providers with their own privacy and security commitments.

Cookies and embedded content

The site uses cookies to keep it working (for example, caching and security), to measure visits through Google Analytics, and to protect forms with reCAPTCHA. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, although some features may not.

Some pages include videos from YouTube. When you play one, YouTube may set its own cookies and collect information under Google’s privacy policy.

reCAPTCHA is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

How long I keep it

I keep planner enquiries, quotes and project emails for as long as I need them to work with you and to meet my record-keeping obligations, generally up to seven years for anything connected to an invoice. Enquiries that don’t go ahead are deleted when they’re no longer needed. Project audio is kept for a reasonable time after delivery in case you need revisions or a copy, and you can ask me to delete it sooner.

Keeping it secure

I take reasonable steps to protect your information, including secure (HTTPS) connections, security software on the website, and limiting access to my own accounts. No system is completely secure, so please don’t send me anything you’d be uncomfortable with me holding.

Seeing, correcting or deleting your information

You can ask me what information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email me and I’ll respond within 30 days. There’s no charge for this.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
